Kodi is a platform that allows you to watch movies and other entertainment content for free. However, there’s a common misconception that Kodi is an illegal platform that shares pirated content. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
While Kodi does contain a few illegal add-ons, most of them are easy to spot so it shouldn’t be that hard to keep yourself out of trouble. Just look out for the ones that offer public movies that have just come out and stay away from them.
Generally, free legal streaming Kodi is super easy. Read on to find out how you can do it through the following add-ons.
1. Tubi TV
Tubi TV is similar to Crackle in that it’s an ad-supported platform that’s available to Kodi users for free. This add-on has over 12,000 movies and series to choose from.
The ads typically show up right at the beginning or towards the end of the movie or TV show.
We were pleasantly surprised by the superb image quality of the movies, and just like Crackle, Tubi TV has distribution agreements with Lionsgate, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Paramount Pictures.
The Tubi TV add-on requires manual installation because it’s available on Github, and not on the official Kodi repo.
To access Tubi TV’s full library of content, be sure to use a VPN such as IPVanish whenever you’re on the site so you can sign-in from different locations and access different parts of the website.
2. Popcornflix
Not to be confused with the illegal streaming app known as Popcorn Time, Popcornflix is a legal Kodi add-on that offers a plethora of free movies to watch. This includes original content, independent feature films and web shows to boot!
While Popcornflix is only available in Canada and the US for now, we’re glad to say that the app is planning to expand into other territories in the near future.
3. Sony Crackle
Cord cutters everywhere know that Crackle is the best add-on for free legal streaming Kodi. The great thing about this add-on is that it keeps getting better, thanks to Sony’s commitment to continue investing in its development.
Crackle gives you access to a wide range of movies, original content and series to stream, all available for free. Sure, you might have to sit through a few ads but that’s a small price to pay, if at all. Crackle adds and removes content every month so there’s always something new to look forward to.
It’s also worth noting that U.S. Crackle users benefit from the company’s distribution agreements with Universal Studios, Miramax, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Lionsgate and 20th Century Fox.
4. SnagFilms
SnagFilms is similar to Popcornflix in that they specialize in ad-supported content in the form of independently produced documentaries and movies.
The add-on was initially launched in 2008 and since then they’ve amassed a collection of well over 5,000 movies. This includes top National Geographic documentaries and popular titles such as Nanking, Kicking It and Super-Size Me.
5. FilmRise
FilmRise started out as a popular YouTube channel where users could watch movies for free, but it is now available as an add-on on Kodi’s official repository.
How does FilmRise get all their movies? They basically purchase distribution rights for all of their content including theatrical releases.
Some of the most noteworthy releases that FilmRise has been able to acquire the rights for include Nicolas Cage’s A Love Story, The Vault in the U.S. by James Franco and Manifesto Across North America with Cate Blanchett.
Like most of its competitors, FilmRise has acquired legal distribution rights from Warner Bros, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and ITV Studies. This means they’ve expanded their movie catalog, making them one of the most sought-after free legal streaming Kodi add-ons.
6. British Council Film
The British Council Film is like the British version of the Japanese Animated Film Classics Organization.
They specialize in old British movies, which are available to viewers for free. You get exclusive access to black and white as well as color classic movies from the British Council Film Collection.
7. BIGSTAR Movies
BIGSTAR Movies has what is arguably the largest collection of free legal movies on Kodi.
The main website has an eclectic mix of premium and free content which is what’s available to Kodi users. The premium stuff isn’t.
What sets BIGSTAR Movies apart from other add-ons is their massive collection of different movie categories. This means you can find a wide variety of content on the website including westerns, horrors, comedies, film-noirs and so much more.
Similarly to the Internet Archive add-on, you can download the BIGSTAR Movie add-on via the SuperRepo repo. Click on Krypton, followed by All and download the entire ZIP file.
8. The Internet Archive
The Internet Archive is one of the most popular free legal streaming Kodi repositories. It’s where a majority of Kodi users go to stream exclusive movies, TV shows and even music for free!
Users can access the add-on through Kodi’s interface and it offers classic movies such as The House on Haunted Hill, Jungle Book, The Fast and the Furious (the original from 1954) and Night of the Living Dead.
This add-on is no longer available on the Kodi repo but you can find it on the SuperRepo repo where you can download it.
9. Japanese Animated Film Classics
As the name suggests, this website specializes in old anime movies and similar content categories from the Japanese film industry’s repertoire.
You’ll find some of the best anime movies on this site, maybe even classics that you haven’t heard of yet. This includes fan-favorites such as Shigeji Ogino, Junichi Kouchi, Seitaro Kitayama and Ikuo Oishi.
If you see a movie you like on their website, then you’ll be able to watch on this add-on. This includes over 100 seminal works like Kamishibai Kintaro, Taro’s Train, Yoshichiro Salutes, The Donkey and Old Man Goichi.
