Meanwhile, Amazon has announced its plans to put up a facility with an area of 219,000 square feet in Washington. They will use the facility to develop and build the company’s spacecraft. However, Amazon missed the deadline set by FCC for the application of a narrow band of spectrum or signal that’s more compatible with the bean Internet data. 9 other companies got the permission, but not Amazon.
Without the license from FCC, Amazon won’t be able to launch satellites legally and use them for their home Internet service. However, the company has asked for a waiver on the process.
What Do Experts Say?
According to experts, OneWeb, SpaceX, Iridium, and some other companies are lobbying against FCC to grant the decision. They have sent written complaints regarding this.
They say that Amazon’s attempt to override the rules could undermine their confidence in the processes set by the commission. This can also harm competition and reduce broadband options for customers. SpaceX lawyers wrote in their filing on November 25 that Project Kuiper would have a damaging impact on SpaceX.
There’s certainly a whole lot of money involved in this conflict. In fact, Starlink might double the market value of SpaceX, as Elon Musk needs more money to fund the company’s mission to space.
