More anime shows on Netflix available right now, as the platform recently added a whole host of new shows to its library.
This comes at just the right time. Millions of anime fans have their faces glued to the screen due to Coronavirus quarantine measures. From March 2020, fans will see the launch of original series alongside many other popular anime shows.
Here’s the line-up of anime shows on Netflix you can expect to see from March 2020:
1. Dino Girl Gauko
This is arguably one of the most popular, family-friendly animes in the whole world. It chronicles the story of a middle-school girl named Naoko who can transform into a ferocious dragon named Gauko.
Whichever form she takes, Naoko’s life is full of adventure. The show features such fierce characters as aliens and of course her loyal friends who have her back no matter what. It’s one of those shows that are entertaining for the kids and the adults alike.
2. Castlevania
Anime shows on Netflix just got better with the rollout of Castlevania’s third series. This original series is yet another binge-worthy hit from the platform and boasts rave reviews from fans. Of course, it comes as no surprise that its most avid viewers are people who are already familiar with the Castlevania video game franchise.
This is a very well-produced Netflix original series. It features an amazing score that blends well with the overall feel and theme of the show. Unlike most anime shows and movies that you may have seen in the past, this series uses western animation. But with a strong anime influence courtesy of the video game series that it’s based on.
It follows the life of a protagonist named Dracula. He loses his wife early on in the series, much like John Wick does in the first of these eponymous films. Once this happens, Dracula decides that humanity needs to learn a lesson. He unleashes an army of ghouls and monsters onto humankind.
However, three heroes come out of the woodwork to fight the growing evil, including monster hunter Trevor Belmont who is also the last of his clan, the Dhampir son of Dracula known as Alucard and a witch called Sypha Belnades.
3. Akame ga Kill!
Originally released in the mid-2010s, this anime series is incredibly brutal yet popular at the same time.
What makes Akame ga Kill so unique is the fact that the series creators are known for their ability to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. It comes with insane plot-twists and incredible character development that keeps viewers coming back for more.
It’s like the first few seasons of Game of Thrones when they killed characters off in the most heart-wrenching style and order we’d ever seen.
It follows the life of protagonist Tatsumi. He moves from the country to the big city to create a better life for himself. The only problem is that his bubble soon bursts when he discovers that the city is riddled with oppression and corruption.
Soon after, a group of assassins called Night Raid recruits Tatsumi and he uses that as an opportunity to start his tirade against tyranny and corruption. A savior to the people. It’s safe to say that this character takes inspiration from the Robin Hood archetype but with a modern anime twist.
4. Lu Over the Wall
Directed by the talented Masaaki Yuasa, Lu Over the Wall is an original anime Netflix series that’s directed by the same guy who brought us Devilman Crybaby. Remember that one? Yep! This popular and critically-acclaimed film was nominated for 4 awards after it came out. It won three, including the Mainichi Film Awards’ Ofuji Noburo Award in 2018.
This series stars main character Kai Ashimoto, a shy middle schooler who meets a girl named Lu. The two soon strike up a friendship. This is based on a mutual love of music and this seems to somewhat lift the spirits of the ordinarily pessimistic Kai. Thanks to Kai’s music, Lu’s fish fin starts to change form and she even starts to form human legs.
As if that weren’t enough, this takes Lu out of her proverbial shell. She shares her singing talent, and humans all around are compelled to start dancing at the mere sound of her voice. It’s one of those feel-good stories about friendship that’ll leave you feeling grateful for your mates.
5. Beastars
Anime is the next in a long line of genres to embrace the anthropomorphic style of storytelling as expressed in the aptly named Beastars series.
If you’re familiar with Paru Itagaki’s work then you know all about the manga series that inspired this show, and it’ll definitely be among Disney’s Zootopia fans because it follows a similar style.
Basically, it’s the tale of a divided city. On one hand you have carnivores and on the other you have herbivores. One of the main characters is a quiet and rather tame wolf named Legosi, a student and drama club stagehand at Cherryton Academy. Leading the drama club is a red deer named Louis who is also the popular girl at school.
Now, things get interesting after the violent attack and murder of an alpaca student named Tem. This is an event which sets off a divide between herbivores and carnivores. Things don’t look good for Legosi who is later involved in a fateful incident that turns into a budding romance with a dwarf rabbit named Haru. Suffice to say, it gets interesting folks!
