Top 5 Tips for Fire TV and Firestick Owners

Do you have a Firestick or Fire TV and you want to learn some tips and tricks?

Here are 5 pro tips for Fire TV owners to help them get more from their Amazon TV devices. This way, maybe you’ll learn a few new things you previously didn’t know about.

1. Turn Off Autoplay

One of the major complaints people have about Fire TV are the Autoplay videos found on top of your screen. Some of them come with annoying audio. The good news is that you can actually turn off the autoplay videos.

To turn off the videos, go to your settings and scroll down to preferences. Select feature content, then turn off the options labeled Allow Video Autoplay and Allow Audio Autoplay. Turning off the options will allow you to disable the autoplay videos and audio. These are often quite annoying, to say the least.

2. Turn Off Targeted Ads

The ads you see across your TV when connected to Amazon Fire TV are targeted to you. So Amazon usually uses your purchasing history on its website or your type of content you watched. This is done to target specific ads to you. This is based on your buying and content streaming behavior.

You can easily turn off the targeted ads. To do this, go to settings, then to preferences, and scroll down to privacy settings. Find-Interest Based Ads and turn off the option. Once it is switched off, Amazon will not display targeted ads to you anymore.

Turning off the targeted ads allows you to enjoy some privacy and peace of mind when you know Amazon is not monitoring your activities.

Attention: Read before you continue

Governments and ISPs across the world monitor their users online activities. If found streaming or browsing content on your Fire TV Stick, mobile or PC, you could get into serious trouble. Currently, your IP is visible to everyone. We strongly recommend you to get a good VPN and hide your identity so that your online experience doesn’t take a bad turn.

We use IPVanish which is the fastest and most secure VPN in the industry. It is very easy to install on any device including Amazon Fire TV Stick. Also, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you don’t like their service, you can always ask for a refund. IPVanish also runs a limited time offer where you can save 73% on your VPN and they allow you to use one account on unlimited devices. This is a flash sale that can expire at any time.

3. Replace Fire TV Remote with an App

Most people often complain about having lost their Fire TV remote in toy boxes, under couches, and just about anywhere in the house.

Kids have a habit of intentionally or unintentionally misplacing the remote control. Fortunately, if you lose your Fire TV remote, you can actually use your iOS or Android phone or tablet to control and watch your Fire TV.

Another useful function of your phone is the ability to type anything you want. This includes passwords and email address to your Fire TV using the mobile device’s keyboard. So the Fire TV keyboard is not actually bad. But if you are used to typing on your phone, the on-screen keyboard doesn’t feel all that great.

With the Fire TV app, you can use the keyboard on your smartphone or tablet to easily unlock the password or type in anything you want. Keep in mind that if you want to use the Fire TV app, you’ll need to have your Fire TV and phone or tablet on the same Wi-Fi network.

The Fire TV app is available in Google Play Store and iTunes. You can find it on Amazon App Store too if you have a Fire tablet.

4. Cast YouTube and Netflix

If you’ve ever watched a video on your phone or tablet and feel like watching it on TV, you can now cast both YouTube and Netflix videos. You can do this on your Fire TV thanks to the updated Silk browser.

This is a great feature because it allows you to share your favorite videos with your family members and colleagues. To do this just click on the cast screen if your Fire TV is on the same Wi-Fi network with your mobile device. The Fire TV will list the video and allow you to watch it on TV.

5. Sync Recently Watched Content on Multiple Devices

In the recent past, when you watched something on Amazon Prime and used a different device, you’d have two different recently watched tabs. It would only show what you actually watched on the current device but not on the other device.

The good news is that Amazon has added the ability to sync recently watched sections from Amazon Prime video content across multiple Fire TVs. To make it even better, you now have the option to turn off the syncing feature if you feel like. However, the sync feature is great if you want to watch the same type of content in your living room and bedroom Fire TVs.

And if you don’t want to have the same content history as your kids, you can easily turn off the feature. The same syncing feature has also been on Roku TV for some time.

Conclusion

The cool tips for Fire TV owners discussed above will help you improve your TV watching experience.

Hi, I went through the process you described. My F/Stick was up to date ‘cos of course I had to put it to default settings last week after trying, and failing to stop adverts as you suggested. As a result I lost Downloader app, kodi, Bee (one of my favs) and cinema. Thus I can no longer get Filelinked. I wonder you haven’t mentioned the unavailability of Downloader now? Is there another way of downloading Firelinked? I also notice in your illustration at the top of your email you show the different options: Spyglass through to settings. Next to ‘Home’… Read more »
